They called Lala Vulvaria to see if she knew any narcissistic extroverts. Silly boy! She spent last night pulling all of the burlesque show props and costumes out of storage in her spacious studio mansion on Division Avenue. The production starts at 10 pm on Friday night. The group combines the classic vaudeville skits with some Suicide Girls-style burlesque dancing. The opening was a zombie dance to Michael Jackson's "Thriller," which was completely entertaining. Another entertaining group was four guys who parodied the Ghostbusters, who hosed ghosts and witches with Silly String. The show was well organized, entertaining, and fairly well put together. The choice of performing at the Wealthy Theater--a former vaudeville theater --was perfect. I would recommend any open minded person over 18 to check out their shows in the future, as they are fun and a completely different evening out on the town.

Are you ready for Halloween Burlesque?

Rehearsal went great! Follow this link to check her out: http://www.hooping.org/archives/000781.html

And if that wasn't all; the music for said hooping act is inspired by the great and original tape splice skronking rock insect bands out there, Renaldo and the Loaf. I passed on our video to Mssrs. Renaldo M and Ted the Loaf and got their whole hearted seal of approval on the arrangement and presentation of their fabulous song, Bearded Cats on the Lawn. Be sure to stop by their myspace, where you'll find our video featured, and listen to some of their fabulous tunes while you're over there.

And of course in our most important slice of news, our farewell "best of at the Sazerac" show debuts Sunday July 29th at The Sazerac Lounge. If you hadn't heard already we are rounding out our year with a string of shows in the main room at the Intersection and sadly, due to limited capacity, must bid the Sazerac a fond farewell! Don't miss it folks, come out and support Grand Rapids' only source of underground comedy, music, theatre, and performance art; Super Happy Funtime Burlesque!!!

Super Happy Happenins and a show at the Wealthy Theatre!!!

Hi friends,

Just checking in to say hey and mention our burlesque show will be
doing a special edition Saturday June 16th at the Wealthy Theatre for
the cost of 9 dollars. Everyone knows that SHFTB plays host to the
kick ass band, The End of Times Orchestra, well why don't you come see
the full 9 piece band in concert June 2nd!!

From Grand Rapids' Music Revue:

Grand Rapids musicians have never lacked in uniqueness, but every once
in a great while the best minds come together to not only break the
mold, but shatter it. This is the case with The End of Times
Orchestra. Their debut album, a two disc set, is a revelation of
vocals, masterful violin solos, and intricately molded percussions,
this well crafted conglomeration of colorful insanity and intrinsic
grooves is sure to capture the imagination like no other local band
can. A cross between drunken pirate serenades with the intense vibes
only a ringmaster on mescaline can deliver, this hybrid of
genre-bending circus-rock is a shoe in for those who appreciate music
outside the bun. If Tevye of Fiddler on the Roof had a favorite band,
this would be it; on the other hand... it would still be it.

-Daniel Fochtman, Apr '07

Come out and see the full 9 piece orchestra along with our special
guests, A Paschal Circus, as we play Rocky's bar and Grill on Ionia;
Saturday June 2nd at 9pm for the mere cost of 3 dollars.
